RESOURCES - HOW DO I INSTALL THE TOP RAIL FOR A CHAIN LINK FENCE?
- To connect the top rail, insert the end into the rail end fitting that is attached to the terminal post (refer to figure 12). If the ends are swedged, slide the small end into the larger end. If not, use a sleeve to join the two sections together by sliding it onto the outside of the rail.
- When you reach the next terminal post, measure carefully and cut the top rail to fit. Measure from the end of the last piece of rail to the inside of the rail end. If the last piece of shortened top rail does not extend through a line post, place the short piece between two full-length pieces with a full-length section running into the rail end and through a line post. This will prevent the railing from collapsing when you attach the wire.
- Position the rail end at a 45-degree angle and insert the top rail into the rail end cup. Apply pressure to snap it down and ensure a snug fit (see Figure 11). Depending on the slope of the ground, you might need to adjust the height of the rail end and end band combination. Finally, once the rail is properly placed, tighten the end band around the rail end to achieve a firm fit.
